There has been a lot of discussion recently about applying Web 2.0 principles inside the Enterprise - aka Enterprise 2.0 . To a large extent, this discussion has been confined to academic circles, conferences and analyst reports. But how do you sell these ideas in the real world?
In a large enterprise, when implementing any new technology, there are some common key questions asked by any CIO or CFO: if we implement this solution, what is the expected ROI? How does this technology help the organization? Most important, how will it help me achieve my goals?
While the "soft" benefits of Enterprise 2.0 are undeniable - transparency, simplicity, information sharing, et al - those benefits are not easily quantifiable. To effectively sell these new ideas, we have to express the benefits in terms of answering the key questions noted above.
Janet Lee Johnson has a great blog post answering these questions for RSS: Three Key Benefits of Enterprise RSS For Any CxO , explaining this idea much better than I could. I encourage you to check it out!
